Silent Book Club

The Beginings

Silent Book Club – what does that even mean? Well, it's Introvert Happy Hour.

Silent Book Club, now a global reading community, was started in San Francisco in 2012 by a couple of friends—Guinevere de la Mare and Laura Gluhanich—reading in companionable silence at the neighborhood bar.

They loved books, and reading with friends, but most of their previous attempts at book clubs fizzled out quick.

Often with traditional book clubs there's the scramble to finish the selected book, and the pressure to have something smart to say. And they thought - wouldn't it be great to have a book club where you could just enjoy books, friends, and drinks—without any homework? And so - the creation of silent book club!

Silent Book Club - sASKATOON

What to Expect

Picture a cozy gathering of local readers, where the joy of books takes center stage. No more rushing through assigned readings or feeling pressured to impress with insightful comments. In our Saskatoon Silent Book Club, it's all about the pleasure of shared reading, minimal conversation, and perhaps a drink or two.

There's something special about putting down our phones and engaging in real, face-to-face interactions, but also disengaging to give our minds and bodies a break. It's about breathing the same air, not just liking a post on social media. Reading in silence, knowing you're not alone, is enough.

In Saskatoon, everyone is welcome to join our Silent Book Club. Here's to building a community of book lovers where the joy of reading is celebrated in the company of friends, both old and new.
